Music Store Owners group (the MSO for short) was started in early 2007 by a handful of music store owners who had been working together in a previous group.  We endeavoured to make the MSO a group where music stores could communicate in an open manner, work on various projects and serve as a bridge between the indenpendent music store, the public and the manufacturers and vendors.  All this has been achieved with our Forum that allows private dealer to dealer communication as well as portions available to manufacturers and our Resource Pages that offer the independent's views on various topics that are of interest to the music making public.

     Within 6 months of the MSO's existence we have 67% of our members actively sharing information with one another regarding brands, business practices, marketing and even general day to day chit chat.  Our members are very diversified from the classic Mom and Pop to the multi-store independent.  So are our views and experiences, which is what makes the MSO so great.  Several manufacturers are on board and are both giving and receiving valuable insight into our industry issues.

    In addition, our MSO Approved Vendor list is a valuable resource for both the public and the indie music dealer.  The public can find out about brands that his local dealer feels are offering quality products while the dealer can find out about potential brands worth carrying.

   The MSO is run by its members.  We have several different people handling different aspects of the MSO and are always looking to its members for involvement.  No one voice overides another, regardless of store size, we're all equal.  No one receives any financial compensation for the work they do for the MSO, it is strictly voluntary, our agenda is our members' collective agenda.

   We welcome you, the independent music store owner, to join us.  We welcome indie friendly vendors to partner with us.  And we ask the public to get involved.
